Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Tame / Managed Outdoor Cat
For feral, unsocialized cats that are not comfortable being handled by people.
- Cats receive minimal handling and restraint to reduce stress and maintain safety.
- An ear tip is required. A small portion of one ear is surgically removed as permanent visual identification that the cat has been spayed or neutered.
- Medical care is limited to what can be safely provided with minimal handling.
- Post-operative care is limited because the cat cannot typically be safely handled for medications or additional treatment.
- TNR pricing applies only to cats meeting the feral/unsocialized criteria.
- If a cat scheduled for TNR is found to be friendly, tame, or readily handleable, it will be classified as a tame/managed cat and applicable pet pricing will apply.
For friendly, socialized cats that can be safely handled like a pet.
- Receives a full pre-operative examination before anesthesia to assess overall health and identify potential concerns.
- No ear tip is performed.
- Receives post-operative pain medication and may receive additional medications or treatments when medically appropriate.
- A caregiver can safely provide medications and follow postoperative care instructions to support comfort and healing.
- Regular pet pricing applies.
- Living outdoors does not automatically make a cat feral.
Important: TNR is intended for feral, unsocialized cats. A friendly, handleable outdoor cat that is being cared for as a pet is considered a tame/managed cat, regardless of whether it lives indoors or outdoors.
